Wimbledon will follow the US and Australian Opens in employing video review systems.
Video review systems will be launched at Wimbledon this year.
Competitors are granted the right to question particular rulings from the chair umpire, following the practice already in place at both the American Grand Slam and the Aussie major.
The new system will be operational on Centre Court and Court One throughout the tournament and on the other four show courts when they are staging singles matches.
This development comes just a year after the AELTC implemented electronic line calling, which brought an end to the longstanding tradition of line judges.
Reviewable Decisions
Players will not be permitted to dispute the accuracy of the electronic line calling, but they can request the umpire to re-examine specific decisions, such as:
- If a tennis ball has double-bounced.
- Whether a ball touched an rival's racket or body during play.
- Potential hindrance end of a rally.
Notably, there will be an unlimited number on the amount of reviews a player can initiate.
Practical Application
A recent example took place in a recent tournament last week, where Daniil Medvedev used the review system against his opponent.
Draper conceded it was a difficult call for the umpire, but believed his opponent had "played the rules effectively."
The umpire viewed a video and ruled the player was guilty of hindrance, granting the rally to his opponent.
Broader Adoption
Video reviews are not exclusive to major tournaments. It was adopted at the American major since 2023 and the Aussie Open since 2025.
Additionally, it is becoming more common on the WTA circuit, and by next season the men's ATP Tour will have the system implemented at every one of its events.
Other Changes
A further change at The Championships 2025 will be the introduction of graphical cues on displays to complement the audio calls from the ELC system.
This solves situations where the crowd have occasionally been unsure whether a shot was in or out.
Finally, with precisely a century of days to go until the start of the Championships, the AELTC have also announced an expansion in daily capacity at the qualifiers in Roehampton.
