Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Fighters Table

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a wide array of characters, and a exciting storyline featuring divine entities, demons, and malevolent powers growing in strength within the city.

Note: Revealing details for the latest installment of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

The third episode concluded with a dramatic pause and revealed the first table of characters who will branch out from the central cast to undertake their independent quest, separate from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table includes the determined fighter (portrayed by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

The Reason for Division

Given 13 cast members, it was clear from the start that having everyone at one table would be impossible.

That’s why, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, weaving together the individual narratives before splitting into three distinct groups: Warriors, Strategists, and Explorers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

According to the DM, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who prefer a traditionally charged battle-oriented story mode where non-violent answers are few and far between.

At first glance, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might appear out of place, but the events of episode 3 demonstrate why these five characters are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

First, the team has a clear idea where to proceed after a violent first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose death kicked off the campaign’s events—exploited the enemy for his own means, invading Thjazi’s hideout, striking Thimble, and stealing all the enchanted items to sell off.

The antagonist then cleared his liabilities and escaped to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, above the city, with Cyd close behind.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each character has a personal reason to depart the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and trusted friend, wants vengeance.
  • Kattigan is familiar with the region and cautions that it is a dangerous environment.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having resisted his house’s orders to execute the target and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their position as prominent individuals in House Halovar could enable the group access areas they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, Teor pledged a life debt to The cleric for his salvation and will now follow him wherever.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are sought by the rulers that rule the setting for a multiple motives, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • Thimble and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and The healer betrayed the powerful family and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by the family.

This results in them few options but to head to the remote area in quest for Casimir.

What’s Next?

From episode three’s Cooldown, we learn that the combat party will not appear the following episode, leaving the rest of the participants to assemble the Questers and Planners parties.

Viewers can anticipate learning which characters will be where in the season’s last Overture episode, released on the upcoming Thursday.
